CARRY FORWARD

THIS CENTURY HAS COME AND GONE
        REMEMBRANCE MUST GO ON
TWO WORLD WARS FOUGHT AND WON
        WITH HISTORY TELLING THE
                     STORY NOW ON
FOR WE ARE ALL BUT GONE

        STRAIGHT AND TALL WE STOOD
FLIGHT TO THE END WAS UNDERSTOOD
         SACRIFICE ALL FOR THE GOOD
FOR GOD AND COUNTRY WE WITHSTOOD

         SOLDIERS WE WERE CALLED THEN
VETERANS WE ARE CALLED SINCE THEN
         REMEMBERED NOW AND AGAIN
FOR NOW WE ARE BUT A FEW MEN

PRIDE AND HONOR WE HAVE CARRIED
                     THROUGH THE YEARS
FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COUNTRYMEN
                     HAVE SHED TEARS

FOR THE MEMORY AND THE
         GLORY OF THE YEARS
WE FOUGHT TO THE DEATH
                    WITH OUR PEERS

THIS CENTURY IS NOW BUT GONE
TIME HAS COME TO PASS ON
TO SOLDIERS FOR YEARS TO COME
           THE PRIDE AND HONOR TO
                     CARRY BEYOND
            THE MEMORIES OF THIS
                 CENTURY WARS WON
           BY VETERANS ONE BY ONE
FOR WE WILL ALL BE GONE

REMEMBRANCE DAY NOVEMBER 11

When we were in Melbourne, we visited the Shrine of Remembrance.
It is a fitting tribute to those that served.  I would hope that lessons would be learned.   We are here enjoying our freedom, and remembering those that lost their live to give it to us!

IN FLANDERS FIELDS

In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row.
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still singing bravely fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below
We are the dead.  Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow.
Loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die.
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders Fields.

------John McCrae-----

The poem, In Flanders Fields,  is the best tribute to our past.

NOVEMBER: AN INTERESTING MONTH!

"IN NOVEMBER, THE SMELL OF FOOD IS DIFFERENT.  IT IS AN ORANGE SMELL.  A SQUASH AND PUMPKIN SMELL.  IT TASTES LIKE CINNAMON AND CAN FILL UP THE HOUSE IN THE MORNING, CAN PULL EVERYONE FROM BED IN A FOG.  FOOD IS BETTER IN NOVEMBER THAN IN ANY OTHER TIME OF YEAR"

POSTING POLITICS IS NOT USUALLY MY STYLE

"LET US NOT SEEK THE REPUBLICAN ANSWER, OR THE DEMOCRATIC ANSWER, BUT THE RIGHT ANSWER.  LET US NOT SEEK TO PLACE THE BLAME FOR THE PAST.  LET US ACCEPT OUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FUTURE."
                                     -----John F. Kennedy-----

We have been bombarded with the current United States Election.  As we live next door to that country, it does have a very large impact on our life.  It has been the rudest campaign, that I have ever witnessed in my Lifetime.  I wish them well, with Donald Trump.  I hope that as a president, he will present himself, in a better light, than he did in the election campaign.

NOVEMBER

Here we go again....The first day, of a new month.  I put it down to old age, that time seems to fly by faster.  I just got used to October and now it is November.  I guess we will just have to live with it!

A CHILD'S CALENDAR

THE STRIPED AND SHAPELY
MAPLE GRIEVES
THE GHOST OF HER
DEPARTED LEAVES.

THE GROUND IS HARD,
AS  HARD AS STONE.
THE YEAR IS OLD,
THE BIRDS ARE FLOWN.

AND YET THE WORLD,
IN ITS DISTRESS,
DISPLAYS A CERTAIN
LOVELINESS.

ANOTHER MONTH...ALMOST GONE

Another month is almost gone....we have only two months left in this year....where has the time gone?

"OCTOBER GAVE A PARTY; THE LEAVES BY HUNDREDS CAME--THE CHESTNUTS, OAKS AND MAPLES, AND LEAVES OF EVERY NAME.  THE SUNSHINE SPREAD A CARPET, AND EVERYTHING WAS GRAND, MISS WEATHER LED THE DANCING, PROFESSOR WIND THE BAND."

THE BOOK I TOOK WITH ME TO AUSTRALIA

Medium  This is a great read.  It is interesting and fast paced. It is about a man that finds his wife's charm bracelet, after her death, and decides to explore where the charms came from.  An enlightening experience for him.

I really enjoyed this book.   I sometimes like to read something light, but this book had substance.  I left it in Australia for my daughter to read but I feel that someone older would identify with the main character more.
