THE BOOK I TOOK WITH ME TO AUSTRALIA

Medium  This is a great read.  It is interesting and fast paced. It is about a man that finds his wife's charm bracelet, after her death, and decides to explore where the charms came from.  An enlightening experience for him.

I really enjoyed this book.   I sometimes like to read something light, but this book had substance.  I left it in Australia for my daughter to read but I feel that someone older would identify with the main character more.

THANKSGIVING OCTOBER 10, 2016

"GRATITUDE CAN TRANSFORM COMMON DAYS INTO THANKSGIVINGS, RETURN ROUTINE JOBS INTO JOY, AND CHANGE ORDINARY OPPORTUNITIES INTO BLESSINGS."
                                                       -----William Arthur Ward-----

We celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada, in October.  It is an opportunity to be thankful for all that we have.  It is a chance for friends and family to get together and enjoy each others company and  share the in  bounty  that we all have.

Back to Adelaide

Monday, September 26.

We left for Adelaide very early in the morning.  My grandson, had a SAPSASA Track meet there.  He was in two events, the long jump and the 100 meters race for 10 year olds.  This was the first year he was able to compete there.  He did very well, and managed to win a bronze medal in the 100 meters.  He has won medals before, but not at this big of an event!
After we left the track meet, we took a drive up Mount Lofty to look at the view of Adelaide and we returned to Murray Bridge via the back roads.

Tuesday, September 27.

The family drove us to the Adelaide airport to catch our flight to Sydney,  we stayed overnight in Sydney at th Stamford Airport Hotel.

Wednesday, September 28.

Our last day in Australia.  We caught the plane to Vancouver, a long long long flight.  We had a few hours wait in Vancouver, before we flew back to Penticton.
It was a great trip, but the traveling to and from, is very long.  It will be awhile before we make the trip, again.

Just days before leaving Australia

Thursday September 22:  my son in law and the grandchildren came into Adelaide to pick us up!  We are planning on spending the next few days in Murray Bridge, before they take us to the airport.
Friday, we had a restful day, and I went with my daughter to pick up the children from school in Mypolonga.  That evening, we went out to Riverscapes for dinner.  Image result for images of restaurant, Riverscapes, in Murray Bridge SA  View from the restaurant.

On Saturday we had a birthday party for my grandson.  His Birthday had been on Wednesday, a school Day.  Everyone had a great time.
On Sunday afternoon we went for a drive to Victor Harbor, and also stopped where the Murray River meets the ocean.  Image result for images of steam train at Victor Harbor  we had hoped to ride the steam train when we were in Australia.  It would have been interesting, as we have a steam railway attraction here, in our town.    Image result for images of where the Murray River meets the ocean   view of where the Murray River meets the ocean.

Adelaide/Kangaroo Island

Adelaide is a beautiful city.  It is worth a few days to visit its sights.  Once you get up town, you can take a tour of the city on a hop on hop off bus, that is FREE.  The Central Market, is a sight to behold, with everything you could possibly imagine.  We did a lot of walking when we were there, and enjoyed what we saw.
On Wednesday September 21 we took a bus tour to Kangaroo Island.  It was a long day. (16 hours)  We picked up the tour at the Central Bus Station.  We traveled  on the bus to Cape Jarvis where we picked up the ferry over to the island.  When we arrived we got on another bus to take our tour of the island.

The highlights of the trip:  The sea lions on the beach and in the dunes, Flinders chase National Park, Hnson's Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.  It was great to see the Koalas, kangaroos and birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat.  The bus driver was an excellent tour guide.  All, was well worth seeing.

Cairn to Adelaide, Saturday September 17, 2016

We were supposed to fly from Cairns via Brisbane to Adelaide, there was some problem with the Quantas connection, so they put us on a Jet Star flight that left at 4:30.  Needless to say, we spent the whole day at Cairns airport.  Not my idea of a fun trip.  But, eventually we took off, and found our way to Adelaide.  We got a cab to the air b&b where we were staying.  It turned out to be a very nice place but it meant that we arrived in the dark.

The next day, we got up early, (our hostess had left us supplies for breakfast) and set out to find a grocery store close to where we were staying.  On the way, we met a couple walking, and asked where the nearest grocery store was.  They were very nice, and they said they would drive us there, as it was nearby.  It turned out to be a small shopping center.  It had a Woolys, a drug store. a bakery, a deli/meat shop and a small cafe.  We really hit the jackpot,  We were able to buy food for the next few days.  It turned out to be very close to where we were staying.  We were staying in a suburb called Richmond, fairly close to the airport.  It turned out to be a very pretty area, with easy access to the bus service.

This was my favorite tree I saw in Australia.  The flowers looked like a bottle brush.                                                                      Image result for images of Adelaide's bottle brush tree lined streets  Image result for images of Adelaide's bottle brush tree lined streets  Callistemon
