A FAVORITE POEM

ROBINSON CRUSOE'S STORY
  by CHARLES EDWARD CARRYL

The night was thick and hazy
When the 'Piccadilly Daisy'
Carried down the crew and captain in the sea'
And I think the water drowned 'em;
For they never, never found 'em.
And I know they didn't come ashore with me.

This is only the first verse.....http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/robinson-crusoe-s-story-2/

This poem has such a nice Iambic Pentameter.

Just as an after thought...there is an old song, telling the same song.  All these things are presented in a funny vein!

I just had to put in a little humour for today!!!!

  1. Thank you - I had never come across the poem (or the poet) before. And smiles are always more than welcome.

  2. Charles Edward Carryl is a very prolific Poet. What I find interesting about him is that some of his poems were set to music for light operas, like Gilbert and Sullivan's
    H.M.S. Pinafore. One, A Capital Ship, was well produced. If you look him up on google, there is a lot of information. Also, the music is played on You Tube. Where I came across him, was when we were in Elementary School, and there were Excerpts of his poems and also the play, of H.M.S. Pinafore.
