"I NEVER FEEL LONELY IF I'VE GOT A BOOK - THEY'RE LIKE OLD FRIENDS. EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT READING THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN YOU KNOW THEY ARE THERE AND THEY'RE PART OF YOUR HISTORY. THEY SORT OF TELL A STORY ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE."
-----Emilia Fox-----
This is now progress in Summerland....The first picture is of our old library (the third one in my memory) which was located on a side street. The rest are pictures of our new library which is located on the main street. I hope this is a good sign of progress in today's technological age....We are a part of the Okanagan Regional Library system, so the books go back and forth between the member Libraries.
Hooray for books. And libraries. Long may they not only survive, but thrive.
ReplyDeletePeople are afraid that books will no longer be necessary with the advent of all the new electronic devices; I disagree. I might be old school, but I like to have printed objects, like books, held in my hand. I actually think that the youngsters, (our future readers), also like to hold their books in their hands. At the opening of the Library there was such enthusiasm by they young new readers. The Kelowna Library ( which is part of the Okanagan Regional Library system) Is using this to their advantage. It is a much bigger library, and they are encouraging the use of electronics as well as the use of printed books. It just shows that both can be used, hand in hand.
