TRAVELING CANADA

I have just returned from a Railway journey across Canada.  We took the Greyhound bus to Pacific Central station in Vancouver, where we caught the VIA Rail train to Toronto.  It was a great trip. I met a lot of great people from all over the world.  There were people from Australia, England, and the USA, plus of course,  from Canada!  We left Vancouver on Friday evening, traveling east our first major stop was Jasper, then Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, (where they changed crew) Sioux Lookout, then on to Toronto.  We arrived in Toronto Tuesday afternoon.
The VIA Rail train is mostly a tourist train.  We have more freight trains than passenger trains here.  VIA Rail leases the tracks from CN Rail, so their trains always have the right away.  We spent a lot of time on sidings to let the freight trains pass.  It was a super trip, actually very relaxing, as you went with whatever the train was doing.  The scenery was wonderful....Because of all the stops, etc. we arrived into Toronto four hours late.  We took a fast GO train from Union Station to Pearson International Airport in Toronto.  It was new, and it only took 25 minutes to get to the Airport.  We then took a direct flight from Toronto to Kelowna.  The day before we left for Vancouver, We took oe of our vehicles to the Kelowna  Airport, so that when our flight arrived, we could drive home....
A great trip!!!

  1. How lovely. There is a romance associated with train trips - particularly long train trips - which has largely disappeared.
